Danish Federation Enter Team In U18 World Championship

press release

Dansk Automobil Sports Union (DASU) is proud to announce its latest talent development project, the DASU National Team. The National Team is to contest the full CIK-FIA U18 World Championship with four Drivers, under the guidance of a Team Manager appointed by DASU.

For years DASU has had a very active talent development programme based on Karting, which includes physical and mental training, anti-doping, driving tuition, etc., for selected Drivers between 15 and 17 years old.

“Together with Government Elite Organisation Team Denmark we are concentrating most of our resources on Karting when it comes to talent development”, explains DASU Sports Director Bo Nielsen. “In Denmark we have a great tradition for this kind of motorsport. It makes good financial sense to use most of our funds here because we can actually make a difference to a Driver’s budget.”

Last year was one of the most successful ever, as Danish Drivers won the CIK-FIA European Championship (KF2) as well as national titles in big countries like England and Germany.

“In 2010 the CIK-FIA introduced the new U18 Championship, together with Parolin and other sponsors”, says Bo Nielsen. “In DASU we watched with interest as it offers more affordable Karting at the highest level, without compromising the traditional CIK-FIA Championships. For us it is the best of two worlds as we can now continue to support young Drivers who elect to race in the regular KF classes, while at the same time it enables us to set up the new National Team. Here we are able to select Drivers on merit alone.”

Former top Karter and successful racing Driver Robert Schlünssen has been appointed Team Manager.

The four Drivers are Jannick Flygenring, Kasper Larsen, Martin Mortensen and Nicolaj Nielsen. The Team will be in action for the first time at the official U18 test in Jesolo (ITA) on 3-4 June 2011.
