Multi-Lane Racing At NSWSKC Masters Meetingpress release After torrential rain early in the week with the Nepean Motorsport complex receiving over 80mm, last Sunday’s Fire Service Plus Masters race meeting was in serious doubt of being held.
A meeting on the Friday morning had the chances at 50%, however after some very hard and diligent work by the track curators, the circuit was prepared and was rated by some drivers as the best track they have ever raced on. Over 80 karters were in attendance and the smooth wide track that provided fast multi-lane racing for all divisions on the day. The race meeting also provided a few surprise results and some new faces proudly stood on the podium for the first time. The Mighty Midget class had a very strong 15 kart field and, according to spectators who witnessed the racing, was one of the classes that displayed the best racing through out the day.
Heat 1 was taken out by Jake Donaldson, then the rest of the day was dominated by a very in-form Kaidon Brown who won heats 2 and 3 and then went on to win the feature starting from position 12.
The Rookie class had a slightly smaller field but the racing standard was just as high. During the day Taylor Coghlan was the only driver in the class to break Andrew Beattie’s “clean sweep” attempt for the meeting by winning the second heat, with Andrew successful in heats 1, 3 and the feature race. Final placings were 1st Andrew Beattie, 2nd Luke Sayre and 3rd Taylor Coghlan. The Junior class saw a field of 13 karters front the starter’s flag and again, such is the level of competition in this class, four different drivers were to take victories in the heats and feature. Nikki Briton won heat 1 for the girls. In heat 2 Jordyn Brazier brought the field home and in the final heat Daniel Sayre proved too quick taking the chequered flag. The feature win went to current Club Champion, Nathan Camilleri. Once the points were added, the final placing were 1st Daniel Sayre, 2nd Jordyn Brazier and 3rd - picking up his first junior placing - Jordan Binskin. Clubman light displayed some great racing right through the four races with a field of 14 karts. In heat 1 Sean Mayo took advantage of his front row start and raced to victory. Heats 2 and 3 were won by new club member, Daniel Morris, and the feature field was led home by Jason Woodward. Final placings 1st Daniel Morris, 2nd Jason Woodward and 3rd Sean Mayo.
The KT Light class continues to grow in numbers and fronted this meeting with a 15 kart field. The racing was as you would expect - hard , fast and competitive! The experience of wingless sprintcar driver, Nathan Bailey, shone through and he took out heats 1 and 3 and also the feature event. The only driver to upset Nathan’s “clean sweep” of the day was James Melling who won heat 2. The podium was 1st Nathan Bailey, 2nd James Melling and 3rd Luke Sinley who picked up his first senior podium result. The KT Pro stars turned it on again at this meeting and the racing by the 12 kart field was, according to those in attendance, great to watch. Wheel to wheel racing in all of the events saw multiple lead changes in every race. Once the final chequered flag fell for the day, the placings were 1st Wayne Baines, 2nd Michael Jordan and 3rd David Alquest, a driver from Perth who came for the weekend.
Other awards on the day went to: High Points Award for the second meeting in a row: Kaidon Brown Considering the gloomy start to the week with all the rain, the weekend finished on a high for those in attendance at the best meeting of the season so far. Once again friends and families stayed long after the presentation enjoying and socialising while they recapped won and lost races.
