Gardner Wins At Southern Star Series Round

Ashlon Gardner has credited a serious determination in his racing to a spectacular win at the recent round of the Southern Star Series. After struggling with mechanical setup in the final, Gardner fought through and managed to claim the weekend.
Gardner was well and truly on the pace from the start, claiming pole position in the JMAX class by over a quarter of a second. This brilliant performance from both kart and driver continued into the opening heats of the weekend, where Ashlon led from start to finish.
The 15 year old said following the meeting, “Despite not being the best weekend on the whole, we were fastest in almost every session. Even though we were struggling with braking issues for a majority of the weekend, we fought on and I just had to adapt my driving style to compensate for the lack of brakes.”
In the pre-final, Ashlon proved his hard work had paid off, and continued to perform, bolting away from pole position and leading right throughout, eventually claiming the chequered flag.
Entering the final, it all seemed to be clockwork for Gardner, however some minor mechanical tweaks prior to the race proved to affect the kart; unfortunately not in the desired manner. With his times dropping by 3 tenths as a result, Gardner was forced to push on harder, making the weekend victory all the more worthwhile.
The Gold Coast student added, “Thankfully all the team's hard work paid off and we were able to score Pole Position, and all 4 race victories. It was great to give the team a well deserved victory even in spite of our difficulties.”
