Fujitsu V8 Drivers For Karting Enduro

press release

Fresh from a weekend of action at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 in North Queensland, several leading competitors in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series will be hitting the Ipswich Kart Track this Saturday in the Race for Jase.

Ash WalshThe Race for Jase event is a three-hour endurance event where up to 40 teams of two drivers will take to the 1060-metre track aboard 125cc karts.  All funds raised from the event will be donated to V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards and his family for his treatment as he battles a rare form of cancer.

Born and bred in Ipswich, Ash Walsh (right, pic by AF Images/Carruthers), was a dual national karting champion before graduating through the ranks to now be competing in the Fujitsu V8 Series with Miles Racing.

This weekend he will make a return to the kart track, pairing with fellow Queenslander Adam Mercer in the Race for Jase.

“The last time I raced a kart was 2004, so I’m really looking forward to getting back into it and having a go,” said Walsh.

“I’ve known Adam since we were ten years old, so it will be good to pair up for the race and what’s even better is that it’s all in the name of a good cause.

“Adam has been racing karts for a long-time, and has been going pretty good lately, hopefully we’ve got something for the other teams.”

Fresh from victory in the V8 Utes round in Townsville Chris Pither will be pairing up with Fujitsu V8 Supercar driver, and fellow Kiwi, Scott McLaughlin for this Saturday’s event.

In addition to the main event, which will begin at 5:30pm, there will be a Celebrity/Corporate Challenge where a number of media identities, dignitaries and celebrities from the South East Queensland region will be suiting up.

These drivers will take to the circuit aboard karts prepared by Gerry Brookes and the team at Turn1 Karts.

After recently having his own battle with cancer, Brookes has generously donated the use of his corporate karts and staff to host the Challenge at this weekend’s event.

“The Race for Jase concept is a fantastic idea, it will bring some of the best kart racers and V8 drivers together to raise some funds while doing something they all love,” said Brookes.

“As a cancer survivor myself, this cause is something that I’m very passionate about and really looking forward to being a part of.”

Practice for this Saturday’s event will begin at 1pm ahead of the Celebrity Challenge at 4:30pm and the main Race for Jase from 5:30pm.

Admission for spectators will be via gold coin donation.

The Ipswick Kart Club is located on Champions Way at Willowbank.
