from Mark Jones

Young Queensland racer Russell Jamieson broke through for his first ever race win in the Australian Superkart championship, after leading all eight laps of the second race of the weekend at the Eastern Creek Raceway round of the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships on saturday. The win moves the Coach Design Anderson-DEA driver into a seven point championship lead over Warren McIlveen.

Jamieson took the lead from second grid position heading Race 1 winner Darren Hossack until the Safe Evolutions Anderson-Safe retired on lap six with mechanical damage. Jason Smith finished sixth behind Livaditis in the Fuji Xerox Anderson-FPE.

Kristian Stebbing (Suburban Accounting & Taxation Services Stockman-Yamaha) claimed seventh position ahead of Carlo Chermaz in the Buildersmile Constructions SKE-DEA. Brett Purdie (Martelco Equipment Hire PVP) and Robert Oakley (Stockman-Honda) rounded out the top ten positions.

Sam Zavaglia started strongly in the Stockman Superkarts SZR Stockman MR2, spending much of the race in fourth position but struck tyre problems on the last lap, limping across the line in 17th position.

Luke May in the STR Truck Bodies Anderson again dominated the 250 National class, taking a five second win over the DLR Racing Stockman of Dalton Rowell. Like Jamieson, May also claimed the 250 National lap record. Martin Latta (Viper Racing UK/MJR Bricklaying Anderson-Honda) was again third ahead of the recovering Brendan Luneman (Soma Building Services/Wizzer Engines Anderson-Yamaha) with May's team mate Matthew Palmer again finishing fifth.

In 125s a lap one retirement by Tim Philp in the Floth Sustainable Building Consulting Avoig-Honda left Jeff Reed to win unopposed in the Stockman Superkarts Stockman-Honda. Reed held an eleven second gap over Paul Campbell (Redback Racepaint Avoig-Honda) at the finish. Drene Jamieson overcome a disappointing first race in the Linra Property Group Stockman-Honda to lead home a three kart group with Rod Conn (Arconn Refrigeration Stockman-Honda) and Mehmet Sinani (Benson-Honda) to claim third place.
