Time For Older Generation To Shine

press release

If you’re more experienced in life and have a love of karting, then this is your time to shine.

The 13th Australian Masters Games will return to Adelaide, South Australia in October and once again the games will feature karting – this time at the Liberty Oils Robinson Park Raceway in the picturesque Barossa Valley on October 8/9.

Over the years the Australian Masters Games have provided a forum for sports competition and social interaction for people over the age of 30, promoting friendship and goodwill among participants, their families and friends, spectators and the community as a whole.

The first Australian Masters Games were held in Tasmania in 1987 and has since grown to become Australia’s largest multisport festival.

Karting has been a part of the Australian Masters Games since 1999 and has been hosted at Bolivar, Newcastle, Canberra and Geelong.

“The Masters Games is an opportunity for the older generation of drivers to get out on the track and enjoy a fantastic event which is designed specifically for them,” said karting co-ordinator Stephen Blee.

“With this year’s event being held in the Barossa for the first time, it will not only allow competitors to enjoy the racing but also take in some of the fantastic parts of the famous wine region.”

Along with the racing on Saturday October 8 and Sunday October 9, there will be a chance for competitors to test at the Liberty Oils Raceway at Nuriootpa on Thursday and Friday prior to the competition.

A social get together for karting competitors and their crews is planned for the Friday night, where the guest of honour will be Glen Dix.

The legendary flagman will also lead the karting parade in the opening ceremony and greet the competitors with the chequered flag in his flamboyant style during the final races.  Dix’s involvement in karting goes back more than 50 years. He was involved in the original South Australian Karting Council alongside the likes of June Hodgetts and Jack Self.

The competition will based on National, Clubman, Leopard and Rotax classes with four divisions of age groups (30 – 39, 40 – 49, 50 – 59 and 60 plus).

Australia’s oldest karter, Jack Cole, has already indicated his intention to compete in the event and will this year be joined at the event by his grandson, John Dankowski for the first time.

Entries for the games close on August 7, 2011.

* All competitors are required to register online - a link to the online Registration, plus the Supplementary Regulations for the karting section of the event, are available via the KartSportNews Race Calendar page HERE
