Lunetta Poles It, Rolls It, Then Stole It

press release

Adelaide teenager Julian Lunetta has a had what can only be described as the ultimate rollercoaster ride of a weekend in his Tony Kart, contesting the Senior Clubman Pro category at the recent City of Adelaide titles.

Heading into the big weekend of racing, Julian was confident of a strong result, saying “I felt pretty confident heading into this weekend, as we have been doing a lot of testing, trying different things, and I believe that we are heading down the right direction in setup.”

Lunetta proved his Kart was on song early in the weekend as he took pole in his class ahead of some much fancied opposition.

After finding the strong speed, Julian stated, “to be honest, I could feel and see that my kart was working better than the guys around me, so when I got out of the kart and was told that we poled it, it was no surprise. Of course it’s an awesome feeling, but I needed to stay level headed and just focus on the rest of the weekend.”

Julian claimed pole position for the start of the weekend’s racing. The strong results continued for the 18 year old as he managed to place his Tony Kart in 1st in the opening heat of the weekend, continuing to build the team’s confidence after such a superb start to the meeting.

An unfortunate racing incident in the 2nd heat on Saturday unfortunately saw Julian roll over, bringing to a halt his brilliant run to that time.

Lunetta added, “after rolling the kart in the incident in race 2, I was a bit shaken up and worried if the kart would be repairable in the short space of time, but the team fixed it Saturday night and had it ready for morning practice on Sunday,” further stating, “it didn't ruin my confidence at all as I had solid pace, and knew if I dropped my head then, it would be very hard for me to salvage something constructive from this weekend.”

On returning to the track for the second day of action, Julian remained confident of a strong result. Starting from 3rd for the pre-final, Julian put his head down and pushed forward, seeking yet another great result to prepare himself for the impending final.

Finishing 1st would now have Julian starting from pole for the crucial final that would ultimately determine the winner of the City of Adelaide title for Senior Clubman Pro. In yet another brilliant display of speed and precision, Julian fought through the 21 lap final to claim victory and in the end, driving away with the win with some comfort, claiming the title by just over 4 seconds ahead of the strong competition.

“After crossing the line and seeing the gap that I had to the field was just unreal, and to come back from the roll, i think it is was real confidence booster heading into this weekend,” stated Lunetta.

Lunetta will now contest the popular City of Melbourne Titles at Todd Road Go-Kart track, Victoria this weekend which will see Julian compete against up to 30 fellow drivers in his category.
