Track Warrior Series Kicks Off

The first round of the Track Warrior Leisure Karting Series took place at The Ultimate Karting Experience circuit in Melbourne last Wednesday night.

The opening round was fully booked and featured drivers with a wide level of skills and karting experience racing in Light and Heavy classes.

Current and former AKA racers grabbed the majority of the placings.

“In the first races, there was a big difference in lap times to the less experienced drivers, but that really closed up as the meeting progressed, especially in the Heavy class” series organiser Adam Klunyk told KartSportNews.

“We had a few small teething problems with the timing system which stretched the night out too long. But overall the value for money compared to a rental kart was incredible. It’s the perfect stepping stone between rental karting and AKA racing. People have told me they got plenty of bang for their buck, and had heaps of fun."

The circuit organised fireworks and national anthem to add some pizzazz, and there were plenty of spectators out to have a look.

Most of the participants leased a Track Warrior kart for the meeting, which was shared between drivers in the two classes. Several own their own kart, and more are expected to become owner/drivers for the following rounds.

“We’ll have the timing fully sorted for the next round so we can concentrate on just having fun. We don’t want this to turn into cut-throat serious racing; that’s not the idea of the series. That was reflected in the minimal damage that was done on the night. There was just a bent axle and a bent tie-rod.”

The second event is on September 7 and Klunyk says interested drivers need to confirm their entry quickly. “The grid is half full already, and those who just did round one don’t have a guaranteed spot for other rounds.”

Placings from Round 1
