Vic Superkarts, Round 7press release Round 7 of the club series started out somewhat wet in what was to be a test session for many of the gearbox entries vying for the Australian Championships to be held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit in November. However, the Juniors were racing for a State Championship and a Formula Ford test drive. Tim Clarke’s success at the recent Non Gearbox Nationals was consolidated with a convincing three heat win and capped off the year nicely for last years third place getter. Runners up Conor Nicholson and Jamie MacDonald enjoyed their first season of Superkarting and will return again to contest the Junior Championship.
In the Non Gearbox Lights it was a dominant Russ Occhipinti who held off Frank Alarcon and Fabrice Borroni in what may seal his grasp on the 2011 Club Championship for his class. Over in the Non gearbox Heavies it was a consistent Lee Filliponi who took the day ahead of Nationals winner Steve Milner and Andrew Jackman. Many of the gearbox entrants were holding their cards close to their chests in light of the up coming Australian Championships, however Rod Conn showed the way in the 125’s ahead of Rob Millar and the first lady to take home a gearbox trophy in Victoria in over ten years Tracey Crawford. Marty Latta made an easy day of it in the 250 Nationals and while Sydneysider Sam Zavaglia took home first in the twins while Anton Stevens, Rod Prickett and Gary Pegoraro were all hovering about. The final race meeting for the Victorian Superkart Club will once again be held at Phillip Island on November 12.
