Sutherland Returns To Karting In Fine Style

press release

Since joining the racing fraternity that is Formula Ford, Lewi Sutherland recently returned to his grass roots and contested the annual WA State Karting Titles in the popular Rotax Light category held at the Albany City Kart Club.

Lewi Sutherland had the Kart going strong from the outset, setting times that had him topping the sheets in early practice.

Thursday practice saw Sutherland drop off a little; however some brief mechanical changes by the team saw the Performance West Arrow Kart gain 3 tenths as more track time saw Lewi become more accustomed to the conditions.

This was also the first chance for the 19 year old to gain track time on the Mojo Wet tyres, which, by the end of the weekend became second nature for Sutherland.

It was a simply faultless drive by Lewi Sutherland as the heats got underway, a clean slate of wins in all races, including the pre-final and final in addition to setting the fastest qualifying time allowed Sutherland to drive home a State title win in fine style.

With a further two rounds of the WA Formula Ford Championship ahead for the 2011 season, Lewi is also looking to the Dash for Cash meeting to be held at Kalgoorlie in eastern WA as yet another chance to set himself amongst the Karting alliance.

Lewi stated, “I have enjoyed a fair bit of success at Kalgoorlie so I am looking forward to that race meeting,” further adding, “I would like to thank my Dad (Iain Sutherland), Greg Dicker, Bd Soutar Dawson and Rob Landsmeer for all there help and advice over the weekend.”

Lewi Sutherland Motorsport would like to thank their sponsors for their continued support Flatout Karts & Engines, Performance West, World Diesel, Racing Dynamics, Chief-racing.com and Arrow Racing Karts.
