Young Karters And V8 Stars For Brekky

press release

Eighteen young karters are happy little campers at the moment after being selected to have breakfast with the V8 Supercar stars at next month’s Norton 360 Sandown Challenge.

At the event, the youngsters aged between seven and 12, will also get a behind the scenes look in a V8 Supercar pit area and be a part of a special demonstration on the Friday of the November 18-20 event.

Troy Alger (right), who hails from the same region of Victoria as Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bargwanna, is one of the lucky drivers.

The St Joseph’s Primary student has been racing karts since August 2007 and hopes to one day emulate the feats of his fellow Warragul resident.  Understandably, Alger is extremely excited about the opportunity to get an exclusive look behind the scenes at Sandown next month.

Rich in history, this year’s Norton 360 Sandown Challenge will once again bring back the memories for motorsport fans by showcasing a variety of unforgettable cars from the past.  And now with the involvement of the young karters, the next generation of Australian motorsport stars will also be on show.

“When we look at the current crop of V8 Supercar drivers there are only two of them that didn’t start their careers in karting, it’s definitely where the stars of the future are coming from,” said Shane Howard, V8 Supercars Acting CEO.

“It is going to be great to have them as part of such an iconic event at Sandown to truly represent the past, current and future of V8 Supercar racing.”

Bargwanna is excited about being a part of the upcoming opportunity with some of the future stars, and even more so considering the fact that Alger is a Warragul youngster.

“I remember racing karts as a kid and would have loved to have got the opportunity to have breakfast with my stars – it’s a memory these youngsters will remember for a long, long time,” said Bargwanna.

“The Warragul region has got some good young drivers coming through the ranks at the Gippsland Kart Club – including young James Golding who won the National Championship earlier this year.”

Tickets for the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge on 18-20 November are on sale from Ticketek outlets and www.ticketek.com.au

A wide range of tickets are available. Children 12 and under will receive free entry into the event with a paying adult and all grandstand tickets include free paddock access and a free pit lane walk.
