Pro Tour Gathers for Final Hit of 2011

press release

Having travelled up and down the east coast of Australia all season long and providing some of the best karting talent on show, the 2011 Rotax Pro Tour will reach its exciting conclusion this weekend at the Fairbairn Park Motor Racing Complex in Queanbeyan, just outside of Canberra.

The final Pro Tour of 2011, hosted by the Canberra Kart Racing Club, will receive a significant boost with the support of Denso Australia becoming the naming rights sponsor of the event. Having its origins date back to 1949 in Japan, Denso have supplied high quality automotive parts for manufacturers as OEM equipment such as Toyota, as well as the aftermarket.

This weekend sees Denso along with International Karting Distributors promote their Iridium Power spark plugs, which are now available at all good automotive retailers.

All six classes of the Rotax Pro Tour will be competing which include Junior Rotax, Rotax Light, Rotax Heavy, DD2, DD2 Masters and Rotax Over 40s. Joining the six classes as a support category this weekend will be the Rotax Super Heavy class. All competitors in the six main classes will also be battling amongst each other in the Rotax Rankings, which began at the NSW State Championships in Newcastle earlier this month and will culminate at the 2012 Rotax Nationals. The concept of the Rotax Rankings gives each driver an indication of where they are ranked in their class against fellow competitors. The best of the best in each of the six classes from the 2011/12 Rankings period will be selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Rotax World Finals.

Heading into this weekend’s Pro Tour event, Liam Morey was leading Junior Rotax from Joseph Mawson and Cameron Hill, who currently sit third in the rankings. In Rotax Light, Tyler Greenbury leads from Dale Corbett and James Macken, whilst Simon Meyer leads Rotax Heavy from Kris Walton and William Yarwood. In Rotax DD2, Kyle Ensbey leads the way ahead of Thomas MacDonald and Travis Millar; whilst in the DD2 Masters category, Dale Verrall leads from Jose Ruiz. The Rotax Over 40s class begins their Rankings at this weekend’s Pro Tour event.

Weather conditions for this weekend are predicted to be mostly fine, with temperatures to reach 21 on Saturday, whilst Sunday will be a warmer 26. But there is a chance of a few showers for both days of racing, which should keep all the drivers and team on edge should the weather change.

Racing begins at 9am on Saturday and Sunday at the Fairbairn Park Motor Racing Complex.
