Woolston Was Double Trouble At Pro Tour Canberra

press release

The opening round of the new Rotax ranking system was hotly contested but there was no denying Victoria’s Troy Woolston as he took his Intrepid Cruiser V’s across the line to win both Rotax Heavy and DD2 class of Rotax Pro Tour held across the weekend at Canberra Kart Track.

The National champ for Rotax Heavy continued his dominant form of 2011 with the dual victories causing double the usual trouble for his competitors.

CC Racing’s Woolston was joined at the event by a large contingent of Intrepid pilots across the majority of classes.  In Rotax Heavy some thrilling spills resulted in Trent Moore’s unfortunate exit from the finals but brother Lane, fresh from the NZ North Island Sprint Titles, ended the weekend with 4th.

Paul Rodgers is always on the pace in Rotax Heavy and walked away with 6th but the track tangles ended the race for Intrepid dealer Full Tilt’s Danny Wright.

In Over 40’s Tony Grant returned to the track in his Intrepid after time out traveling and took out 3rd place.  The former Lismore Kart Club President was racing for KAOS Karting and enjoyed social aspects of the race meet as much as his on track competition.  Grant is looking forward to future Pro Tour rounds in 2012.

The well-supported class of JMax had thrills and spills all weekend with the field of 26 young racers resulting in a lot of casualties throughout the race events.   The Gold Coast’s Mitchell Griffin had 3 DNF’s to contend with but drove through the field in the final to take out 8th place.

In Rotax Light a field of 35 competitors lined up for 28 spots.  Flying the Intrepid flag CC Racing’s Josh De Maio and Brad Jenner succumbed to race argy bargy with De Maio forced out with a DNF in the pre-final.  Another relative newcomer to Rotax Light Jenner finished up with 11th in the final followed by De Maio at 13th.  First time Pro Tour racer, Damien Lee made an unfortunate exit prior to Finals but did well in the face of the determined field.

Absent from this Pro Tour event was Tyler Greenbury who will fly to Dubai and Italy later this month as part of his Max Challenge World Final race campaign.

Greenbury will line up with De Maio and a large number of international Intrepid drivers including New Zealand’s Daniel Kinsman in the 125 Senior Max class.

The boys are all looking forward to racing against the world’s top 72 drivers in their class at the Al Ain raceway in Dubai, part of the hugely impressive Yas Marina Circuit.
