press release

Racing around a racetrack at 100kmh just centimetres from the ground can become quite addictive.  That’s certainly the case for Gympie’s young Harrison Oddie, who regularly competes and finishes inside the top 3 at regional Australian Karting Association sanctioned events for 10 – 12 year olds (Rookie class).

As a reward for such consistent performance, Harrison, Gympie’s own “Race for Daniel” Ambassador, has qualified to join eighteen young Karters aged between 7 and 12 years old to have breakfast with their V8 Supercar heroes at the upcoming Norton 360 Sandown Challenge.

At the event, the youngsters will also get a behind the scenes look in a V8 Supercar pit area and be a part of a special demonstration on the Friday of the November 18-20 event.

Rich in history, this year’s Norton 360 Sandown Challenge will once again bring back the memories for motorsport fans by showcasing a variety of unforgettable cars from the past.  And now with the involvement of the young Karters, the next generation of Australian motorsport stars will also be on show.

“When we look at the current crop of V8 Supercar drivers there are only two of them that didn’t start their careers in Karting, it’s definitely where the stars of the future are coming from,” said Shane Howard, V8 Supercars Acting CEO.
“It is going to be great to have them as part of such an iconic event at Sandown to truly represent the past, current and future of V8 Supercar racing.”

Harrison sets out for his big weekend in Melbourne on Thursday 17th November, joined by his mum Alison, a self confessed motorsport fan.  They will spend the entire weekend trackside immersed in everything V8 Supercars and will be treated to a special experience that money cannot buy.
