Scott Dixon & Graham Rahal For Karting Classic

press release

After gaining momentum earlier in the month, the Indy Karting Classic gained a huge boost today with the confirmation of participation from IZOD IndyCar Series drivers Scott Dixon and Graham Rahal. Taking place on Sunday, December 11, in conjunction with the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS), the Indy Karting Classic is a one day event to help promote the sport of karting on the grandest of stages.

"It is a pleasure to welcome Scott and Graham to the IndyCar team," expressed co-race promoter Shannon Parks. "The event is shaping up to be a huge success and the names of the drivers wanting to participate is very exciting. With six IndyCar Series drivers now confirmed, we are working on finalizing the remaining NASCAR drivers in what is sure to be an epic event."

Around the Indianapolis, Indiana area, the names Dixon and Rahal are common amongst the motorsports enthusiasts. Now, those same two drivers will show their skills behind the wheel of a 125cc racing kart inside the Conseco Fieldhouse.

Dixon, who currently competes with Target Chip Ganassi Racing, is the 2008 Indianapolis 500 Champion and has 27 IndyCar race wins to his name. Having never finished outside the top three in the championship race for the past four seasons, the '03 and '08 IndyCar Series champion will look to carry that success to the grassroots of motorsports in the December karting event.

Joining Dixon at the Conseco Fieldhouse will be Indianapolis resident Graham Rahal. The talented 22-year-old is the youngest driver to win an IndyCar race, doing so in his series debut at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in 2008. The former A1GP pilot competed in the 2011 racing season with Chip Ganassi Racing with sponsorship from Service Central, where he went on to claim three podium results including back-to-back podiums in Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Indianapolis 500.

With Scott Dixon and Graham Rahal joining Alex Tagliani, Tomas Scheckter, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Jay Howard, the IZOD IndyCar Series team for the Indy Karting Classic is now complete. With Tony Stewart, AJ Allmendinger and Austin Dillon set to battle from the NASCAR ranks, look for further driver announcements in the coming weeks as the Indy Karting Classic gets set for it's inaugural event in 2011.

With the one-day event taking place on Sunday, December 11, 2011, the jam packed day will feature a full slate of practice, qualifying, heat races and main events. With a small entry fee that includes an indoor pit space, oil, fuel and a set of tires, karters will have the opportunity to display their skills in front of a large crowd.
