The 2011 South Pacific Titles ran at Orange last weekend, November 5-6.

The South Pacific Titles has a long history. Originally run as the South Pacific Championships at Gnoo Blaa race track in 1953 (until the track closed in 1963), winners in those days included Brabham and Davidson.

One of the Orange Kart Clubs founding members, Max Stewart, was able to get the name of the event for the kart club. During the 1970s, the event was a full international race, with drivers like Fullerton, Yip, Pizarro and Ingall competing.

2011 saw the relaunch of the event, with support from one of the original event sponsors, DAP. Each class would be run for a cup, named after a DAP connection; either a driver, chassis or person associated with DAP. A new range of DAP karts may be available in near future.

Almost 130 entries greeted unusually warm Orange weather with good fields in all classes, but the feature event was the DAP Sth Pacific Cup, which was run for Senior National Heavy.

With 29 entries in SNH, all chasing the $1000 prize for the winner, with cash also paid for qualifying, each heat and fastest lap.

Darren Harris dominated the weekend, quickest in time trials and leading every lap, to collect $1250 including his fastest lap of 44.6s (almost 1 sec quicker than 2010).

Junior Clubman also ran  at the meeting, with some excellent racing. This class should be a huge growth class, with plenty of S motors around for the young drivers to run.
