Big Numbers For South Australian Championships

More than 250 kart racers will converge on the Monarto Karting Complex, just outside of Murray Bridge, to contest the 2011 South Australian Karting Championships next weekend (Nov 25-27).

Drivers from all mainland states of Australia will be represented with competitors as far away as Perth, Cairns and Darwin heading to the South Australia’s most prestigious event on the karting calendar.

With 14 categories being contested, catering for a variety of ages, weights and engine capacities there will be drivers varying in age from seven to well over 50 years old.

There will be a number of national champions competing at the event in their respective categories. Also competing will be Macualey Jones, who returns from competing in the 15th Annual Super Nationals event in Las Vegas only days before the championships.

Local driver Luke Marquis has travelled to every mainland state in Australia racing in the major events, with significant success throughout the year. He will start as one of the local favourites.

Australia’s most travelled kart racer in 2011 is Cairns’ Aidan Wright. The 16 year-old has this year competed in the three-round CIK-FIA World Under 18 Karting Championship throughout Europe, along with all of the major events in Australia. He will line up in the Leopard Light category.

Practice begins on the Wednesday and will continue until qualifying on Friday. Racing commences on Friday afternoon and will continue throughout the weekend with the Championship Finals being contested on Sunday.

The Monarto Karting Complex is located on the Old Princess Highway, Monarto.
