Bundberg's Last Event For 2011
from Darren Ey Bundaberg kart Club, final race meeting for 2011.
Midgets was a battle in two with Leyton Ey & Jayden Golan fighting it out all day with some very close racing with Jayden clipping Leyton in the first heat and spinning. Jayden went on to win heat 2 & the prefinal comfortably but Leyton Ey put his head down in the final and while it was nose to tail for the first 8 laps, Ey drove away from Golan in the dying laps to take out the final and the day.
With good numbers of Rookies all year, it was a shame to finish the year off with only 2 starters after a few boys made the move to juniors for the last meeting.
Wyatt Davidson was too good for Joseph Black who has just made the move to Rookies after showing he has been one of the top runners in Midgets in Queensland during 2011. With a few of the older juniors making the move to seniors, Jordi Marcon had no trouble blitzing the field in Junior National Light with Jacob Bright and James Litzow fighting it out for the minor placings, both of them making 2 to 3 passes every lap. It was great to watch and with all the moves nice and clean, it was very impressive. Cody Ey was the only JNH and while he managed to keep the lights honest for the first few laps, he was never in the hunt with those extra kilos taking their toll. But he did have some good battles with Jacob Zunker behind the front runners.
QLD Sportsman Light provided some good racing through out the field with veteran Stan Peterson battling all day with John Meechin for a spot on the podium. Up the front, Jeremy Landt was in good form after his state title win this year seemed to have the goods on Troy Loeskow who has made the move from Juniors. After some set up changes, Troy turned the tables on Jeremy going on to take out the pre final and final.
With 15 starters in the field, QLD Sportsman Heavy was always going to be the class and with Kel Tressider returning to take on front runners Andrew Pearson, Dale Evans and Clinton Marcon, we new we were in for some top racing. With Andrew Pearson taking out the first heat and Kel coming from the rear only to manage a 4th place, it looked like it was another cake walk for Pearson. Heat 2 saw Kel lead the field, Gavin Whitmore coming through for second after being disqualified from heat 1, with Clinton Marcon coming in 3rd. With a reverse grid pre final we knew we were in for some action with Kel & Andrew starting rear of field. Kel managed to work through to take out second but Andrew got caught up in traffic and limped home in 9th place with a bent axle and broken rim as fresh from Juniors Rylee Walton took out the win.
In the final Kel showed his class to take the win with Clinton not far behind him and Andrew in third. The first 7 karts were nose to tail for most of the final which was great to see.
Simon Obst has been top of Qld Sportsman Super Heavy class all year with speed to burn, but with the return of Ryan Fulcher (former Aust No 1) he was always going to struggle. Fulcher was too good all day but with a broken clutch at the start of the final he had to start rear of field. With Rob Richards and Obst setting the pace it took a while for Fulcher to pull them and finally take the lead and the final.
