Aidan Wright started strong in the Leopard Light class qualifying on top of the time sheets but it was the current Australian Champion in Fothergill who took out the opening heat while Wright was back on top inheat two.

The pre-final saw Wright again on pole but it was Fothergill who gained the ascendancy after starting on the outside front row taking the win over Wright and Kosmic driver Jake Spencer.

Fothergill who was celebrating his 23rd birthday was then shuffled back a few spots at the start of the final but the Kosmic pilot quickly recovered to take not only the lead but also the race win capping off his year with another blue plate.  Wright finished second ahead of Spencer, James Sera and Leigh Nicolaou rounding out the top five with Fothergill,Sera and Nicolaou the top three drivers eligible for the new X30 engines in the light class.

“It’s great to win not only the State Championship, but also the Leopard Final,” said Fothergill.

“It’s a great way to round out the year, one that I’ve had some great success in, but none of this success would be possible without the support of MG Engines, Tracksa, Remo Racing, Kosmic Karts, Glenn Powles Designs, Eastern Creek Karts, Peter Galvin, Jammo and Kenny Bunyan.

“Monarto is a fantastic circuit and the Nationals here in 2013 will be ‘mad’, I can’t wait!”
