Split Timetable For 2012 Nationals

press release

Split days to provide the opportunity to enjoy the Top End

Throughout the year, kart racers and their families spend thousands of hours attending events all across the country.

They’re generally the envy of their friends when they say that they’ve travelled to different parts of the country, however, rarely do they get to see any of the sights that are around the cities they visit.

In an effort to allow more of an enjoyable time at the 2012 National Sprint Kart Championships, the 50th running of the prestigious event, the nine categories that will be competing at the event will be split into two groups – afternoon and evening.

This schedule will allow competitors to have more on track time in a shorter period and with the category split remaining the same throughout the week it also enables them to test their machinery at similar times to when they will be competing.

And yes, that’s right.  For the first time in the history of the sport some of the National Champions will be crowned under lights.

“Darwin is a unique venue and with this being the first time that they National Championships have been held in the ‘Top End’ we’ve been looking at ways of trying to making it a memorable event for everyone attending,” said National Events Co-ordinator Pam Arnett.

“For a lot of our competitors, next year’s event will be the first time they have visited Darwin, so we want to make sure they not only get to enjoy some great racing but also the great sights that Darwin has to offer.”

Having been moved from the traditional Easter date to July 7/8 (Practice July 5/6), the 50th National Sprint Kart Championships now falls in the July school holidays for the majority of the states and the ‘dry season’ in terms of the Darwin weather pattern.

It is recommended that members who are looking to compete at, or attend, the event in July visit http://www.tourismtopend.com.au/ to plan their accommodation in the Darwin region at their earliest convenience.

The Supplementary Regulations for the 50th National Sprint Kart Championships will be available in the early months of 2012.
