AKA President & Vice-President Announced

press release

The National Karting Council (NKC) of the Australian Karting Association (AKA) met recently.

During this meeting, the vacant positions of National President and Vice-President – in particular the recommendations of the selection panel – was discussed at length.

Following this discussion, South Australian Dave Kissock has been selected as the Vice-President.  Kissock has a long association with the sport of karting and is happy to accept the position. The selection panel’s report read “The best application was the only one which addressed all of the criteria – Mr David Kissock.”

Based on the recommendations of the selection panel, the NKC elected not to fill the position of President from the applicants. “The remaining applicants did not address the criteria.  We have not recommended that any of the applicants be considered for the positions of either President or Vice-President.”

As the working group did not recommend anyone for the position of President the National Executive has asked Craig Denton if he will continue in the role that he has effectively been filling for the past few months. This offer has been accepted and he has been appointed to this position. The Executive have all agreed unanimously that the period until the next election in August be used to transition the AKA into a Board of Governance and this shall be the highest priority of the Executive.

Naturally, this relies on the NKC to adopt a governance model, or to utilize the existing model that was agreed upon some time ago but the Executive offers its full support to the NKC to ensure it happens.

If the AKA is to progress forwards then a leadership team that is prepared to make decisions, stick by them and go forward is paramount. The only way to do this is by Governance. For to long the NKC have stated that they get bogged down in the day-to-day issues and do not get onto the real issues like strategic planning. Governance will allow the committees to discuss the issues of wheel widths, piston homologations, class structures, appeals etc and allow the board to get on with the strategic planning and best business practices for the AKA.

There will also be a schedule of events put into place to review the two constitutions that are in existence and set some clear time frames for progression.

The NKC agreed that continual communication flow to its members, in particular to specific groups where upcoming rule changes will affect them, is vital and this is one area that they will be targeting during 2012 and beyond.

The NKC has also decided to review the rules relating to the use of aluminum wheels in the Cadet/Rookie classes and would like to remind competitors that the regulation only applies to State Championships in 2012. The precise wording will follow in early January but the proposed changes will see any aluminum wheel eligible.

A formalised approach towards reviewing the parity of the Restricted 125 class has been implemented by the NKC and the first review of the parity information will be presented in approximately three months time, this will be an on going item.

The NKC also decided to accept the proposal from AKAQLD to exempt the charity event "Race for Daniel" (Cooloola Coast – January 14/15) from the National AKA levies that would normally be charged.

In order to ease any confusion in accounting and budgeting, the AKA will now move to a January to December Financial year.
