Local Dignitaries Show Support For 'Race For Daniel'

Mayor Dyne (right) is one of a number of local dignitaries to have shown their support for this great event. Councillor Julie Walker, GRC Works & Services Committee Proxy Chairman, who although cannot attend the Harrington Doyle Racing - 'Race for Daniel' event this weekend, has phoned event organisers earlier this week offering her support for not only this event but into the future.

Mr. Warren Truss, Federal Member for Wide Bay, Leader of The Nationals has also written to Event Organisers to offer his apologies for being unable to attend this weekend, but sends his well wishes for the event's success.

“The support shown by the local Councillors and Members of Parliament for this event makes me proud to be a ‘Gympie Lad’ – no matter how far I am from home,” said Harrington Doyle Racing’s Craig Doyle.

Cooloola Coast Promotions Officer Kym Coomber is also proud to have such great support from the local dignitaries.

“The Daniel Morcombe Foundation has done significant work to implement Harm Prevention and our club felt that this Foundation is an integral part of all of our communities, which is why we have chosen to support the foundation,” said Coomber.

“It’s great to have the support of the local dignitaries and although the Morcombe’s themselves will not be able to attend the meeting due to an interstate engagement, Bruce and Denise have also personally expressed their gratitude and have enlisted the help of Foundation representatives to attend the event.”

With late entries still open until tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon, it is expected that almost 100 youngsters will take to the Gympie Gold Race Trackon Saturday and Sunday for the event.

Along with a host of sponsors, the National Karting Council of the AKA voted recently to endorse that the normal fees that apply to running a race meeting be a part of the contribution to The Morcombe Foundation.

Entries have been received from as far north as Cairns down to Adelaide and Coffs Harbour. All competitors will go into the draw for fantastic prizes including a Junior Arrow rolling chassis Model X1J from Drew Price Engineering, the manufacturers of Australian made racing kart chassis, plenty of Yamaha and Dunlop merchandise along with many other random prize draws from various generous sponsors.

The club will have karting trade sites and distributors at the event along with Street Empire’s road show on wheels, this semi trailer will be full of merchandise for sale including Racer Inc, Unit, Rampant and Jet Pilot clothing lines just to name a few.

Glenwood Jumping Castles and Amusements have also come on board bringing a jumping castle for the kids from 10am Saturday and Sunday.

The winners from the Gympie Times Go Kart Challenge will all take part in a lap of honour on Sunday between the pre final and final with an estimated time of 12pm and will then receive their prizes with the other winners of the Harrington Doyle Racing – 'Race For Daniel' at presentations after the completion of racing on Sunday.
