Australia Allowed More Starters At Rotax World Final

12 Australian karters will race at the 2012 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Final in Portugal later this year. Australia has been allocated an extra two DD2 Masters seats for the 2012 event.

The extra two seats were awarded in recognition of the superb result of the 2011 Australian Team and the successful growth of DD2 racing in Australia.

"This means that Australia will have three drivers in each of the four classes and a team of 12 drivers will go to the event" IKD informed KartSportNews.

The winners of the 2012 World Final seats will be allocated as follows:

  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in Junior Rotax Ranking will win Junior Max seats
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in Rotax Light Ranking will win Senior Max seats
  • 1st & 2nd place in DD2 Ranking will win DD2 seats
  • 1st place in Rotax Heavy Ranking will win a DD2 seat
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in DD2 Masters ranking will win DD2 Masters seats

“After winning the Nations Cup and three second places last year, it’s fantastic that in 2012 we will be able to take a bigger team. This will be our biggest team ever” said Ian Black from IKD.

“I am stoked that we get more of a chance to go now,” says Brent Coghlan, DD2 Masters competitor from the 2011 team.

“I am keen to try to get over to Portugal - the World Finals was the best event I have ever been to but we’ll just have to see what happens. The competition in the DD2 Masters class is going to be tough this year, and now that it's running as a separate class and the ranking points are being allocated to 20th place, the points will be pretty close."

Be a part of all the Rotax Pro Tour action when the second Pro Tour event for the current ranking season kicks off at Todd Road, VIC on 27-29th January.

With more World Finals seats on offer than ever before, there has never been a better time to race a Rotax.
