McLean Set For Top Guns Formula Vee Test

press release

Matt McLean had a successful introduction to the Junior Clubman category at the recent Top Guns event at Victoria’s Oakleigh circuit, in the process, being judged one of two successful drivers to take part in a test day with Junior Racing Development.

In a performance that caught the eye of many, McLean managed to put his Monaco Junior Clubman Kart on pole position for his first ever race in the category, and with it being on a big stage, Matt was very impressed with this efforts. The Victorian teenager stated, “It was really great to have poled my first ever race meeting in Junior Clubman, it gave me a lot of confidence.”

As the meeting continued, strong efforts and continued successful results by Matt on track again impressed a big fleet of on lookers. It came down to a couple of unfortunate situations for McLean that saw him struggle a little in the finals, sighting some minor mechanical dilemmas as the reason. McLean added, “A mechanical failure while in 2nd place in the final race of the first round, and being involved in an accident in the final of round two wasn’t an ideal finish but the experience is so crucial for the future.”

Following the meeting, Matt was judged successful of receiving a place as part of the 2012 Junior Racing Development (JRD) test program in one of the team’s Sabre 02 Formula Vee’s. The selection process is one based on the assessment of all drivers competing over the course of the meeting, and both Matt and fellow Victorian teenager Liam McLellan could not be split with both of them set to take part in the test at Winton Motor Raceway.

“I am really thankful and excited that JRD have chosen me to take part in the Formula Vee test day. It will be a great opportunity for me to get my first taste of what it's like to drive a real race car and will greatly assist in my future career decision making,” Mclean concluded.
