Victorian Superkart Series, Round 1Tweet

The A.M.S.F. Junior Championship kicked off on Satruday February 11 under bleak skies at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit. Whist the field was small the racing was good and close. This year the Championship welcomes James Allen, who will travel from Western Australia, and Dylan Howell from South Australia. Last years entrants, Tim Clarke, Connor Nicholson and Jamie MacDonald have returned. Round two will be held at Calder Park on March 31st.
In the seniors, the 250 Internationals came out for a bit of a look. Most only ran a few sessions or part of testing and fine tuning for the Australian Championship rounds later in the year.
In the Barry Plant sponsored 125cc gearbox class it was a determined Robert Xerri who held off Gary Haywood and Rod Conn to take the day out. All drivers complained about finding grip on the greasy race surface.
Bobby Jane made his debut in the Rotax Light class after some rigorous weight training in the off season however Russ Occhipinti again made easy work of taking the day out in straight wins ahead of Frank Arlacon. The lights also had quite a few new faces join the ranks.
The Rotax Heavy class, sponsored by Oz Design Furniture Nunawading, saw Superkart rookie Paul Rogers take the day ahead of Leigh Grant from Sydney and veteran Rod Clarke in third. The racing was close all day in this class with the slightest slip up costing you dearly.
The next round of the V.S.K.C. club series for 2012 will be head at Calder Park on March 31st. Spectators are most welcome and entry is free.
