Coleman Victorious for CRG at CIK SoK Opener

press release

The CRG Australia Racing Team has wrapped up the opening round of the 2012 CIK Stars of Karting Series at Adelaide’s Bolivar Raceway with a pair of victories in the Pro Junior KF3 finals along with a fine second and third place in the Pro Gearbox KZ2 main events.

Temperatures soared to over 40 degrees on both days of competition putting plenty of pressure on the drivers as they battled throughout the three 20-lap heats and two 34-lap finals.

Jake Coleman started his 2012 Pro Junior KF3 campaign in the best possible style, after claiming pole in the qualifying shootout the Sydneysider claimed two heat victories on day one before ultimately winning both the finals in style.

The 15-year old comfortably won the opening encounter on the final day by 7.3 seconds and with it was rewarded with the South Australian Championship before piloting his CRG to another cruisey 1.9-second victory in final two.

"It's a great feeling to finally break through for a win.  We've been trying to get one for three years now, and it's a huge relief to get there," said Coleman.

“We pretty much won everything this weekend and I think we have another good chance at the next round as well as Newcastle is like my home track so I’m really looking forward to it.”

“I couldn’t complain about my CRG kart, all weekend I could just drive it in and put it almost anywhere I wanted and it would hang on which was great.”

Coleman finished fourth overall in the 2011 Pro Junior KF3 Championship and he now leads the point standings after the 2012 opener – 13 points clear of his closet rival.

After finishing off the 2011 series off on a high with his first ever round win, Jason Pringle has had a solid start to this year’s series and will head into round two a mere three points off the championship lead in second place.

Conditions were extremely tough for the Pro Gearbox KZ2 competitors with around 25 gear changes per lap (approximately 850 gear shifts per final) however Pringle handled it perfect to walk away with a real solid points haul.

Like Coleman, the Victorian also claimed pole in the qualifying shootout before a good run through the heats including a win lined him up on pole for final one.

After leading the majority of the race Pringle eventually had to settle for second before greeting the chequers third in final two.

“Man it was hotter than an Arizona barbecue out there today but I have to say my CRG handled the conditions perfectly,” said Pringle.

“It’s great to be second in the championship, after winning the final round at Newcastle last year I’m really looking forward to getting back there for the next round and hopefully back that victory up with another.”

Fellow CRG driver Jedd Stojackovic was equally as solid in the Australian Leopard Challenge support class. After qualifying second fastest, the South Aussie then won the opening heat before finishing runner-up in the remaining four races including the final.
