Another Top Class Club Meeting At Lithgow

press release - Race Meeting 25th/26th February 2012

Several years ago the Combined District Kart Club made the decision to add to their already friendly club atmosphere and facilities, as much racing as it could provide for the entrants on any one day.

Following a very successful start to the 2012 year, with the Junior Camp, Junior race day, Senior Day, and the ever growing Ladies Only event, the first round of the Club Championship contested last weekend has just continued to show that you can get results for effort as a huge weekend of racing was provided by the club.

Almost 160 karters faced the starter for the now standard 3 heats, pre-final and final format that has become one of the main features of the clubs success.

A perfect Saturday provided a beautiful summer’s day, bright sunshine, and a slight wind to stop it becoming too hot and provided big fields in all the Light divisions.

A huge field of Cadets enabled the newer drivers, still on their P plates to have their very own Pre-Final and Final. After gaining some very real experience racing with all the Cadets in the 3 heats in big fields, the P platers then enjoyed having their very own pre-final and final tussle.

In the open division, Travis WORTON Lewis HODGSON, and Lucas LIGHTENBERGER were the best of a very close field of experienced Cadets, while Sasha COHEN Paige RADDATZ and Kallan MARANIK were the best of the P Platers.

Joshua CARR led home Cody BREWCZYNSKI and Brianna WILSON home in the Rookies field and once again a very Big Field provided some exceptionally good racing all day.

Another Big Field of Junior National Lights provided some really close and exciting racing with James DUCKWORTH eventually getting the better of Gus FLYNN and Glen ORMEROD in the final, however the top runners swapped places all day throughout the heats and pre-final which really did make it a Final well worth watching.

The Seniors had a great day with Big Fields to test their skills, The National class saw Bryce DAVIDSON lead home Mathew COLLINS and Nicklaus LIGHTENBERGER home while Aaron GUINTINI had to follow them home after being up the front in most of the previous races, and the Clubman’s!! Who is going to stay with the ever fast Ian BEERAZ? Well Bryce DAVIDSON and Phillip BETTERIDGE tried hard all day but had to be content with filling the minor placings, with Mitchell HUDSON right in there to keep them all honest.

And finally the Class that is building numbers all the time The Ladies National Class, the club is intent on providing all the support it can to make this class grow with each meeting. On this occasion the two MILLMORE girls, after some very close racing all day, led home a good sized field of Ladies, Monique, got the better of Sister Sarah, while the ever consistent and experienced Jenny TAYLOR kept the two sisters in her sights all day, Breast Cancer Pink Plate holder Amanda ABBOTT was off song all day, while Simone SEAL never seemed to get her motor running, (Must have been the hubby acting as Pit Crew Fault??)

The weather certainly did a complete 180 degree turn around for the Sunday Heavy Classes; where a heavily overcast day greeted everybody in the morning, and certainly rain became the order of the day and out came the “Wets”

The weather did absolutely nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the entrants and the day started with a very large field of clubman heavies going out to do battle. It was great to see Corey LEAN back in the seat and he went on to show the qualities that he has always displayed, leading home David KERMOND, and Nigel STONES, in a field that contain a lot of top class clubman exponents.

And another very big field of junior heavy drivers provided some exceptionally good wet weather control, and despite the wet track all the starters completed the final which certainly shows that all our juniors are very capable drivers. On this occasion Jeffrey RAHALEY after a slow start in the first heat, went on to have total control of all the rest of the heats and finals and scored a well deserved win from, Samuel SCHWARZ headed Reese DAVIDSON into the minor places.

The national over 40 drivers are starting to hone their skills in preparation for the annual trip to the big over 40 gathering in Coffs Harbour, and they welcomed the “Damp” conditions as the last several years in Coffs has seen a similar “wet track”. Anthony BORG, after bombing out with a “Brain Snap” in the last corner on a very wet track at Coffs last year, made no mistake about this meeting he led home a hard pressing Glen EGAN who kept Anthony on notice all day but had to be content with the 2nd spot, while Kevin FIELD filled 3rd place and was right there keeping them both honest all day, and the rest of a quality field was always there ready to pounce at the slightest mistake.

The Tag Restricted numbers are really building, and with big fields in both the Light and Heavy divisions some great racing was the order of the day. Chris WHITE, led Bradley GOODMAN, and Blair BOLTWOOD home in the Heavy division, while Michael SIEDERS was a stand- out winner of all the heats and finals of the light division and left Todd ROBERTS and Clinton BALDOCK to fill the other places.

And finally the BIG PEOPLE the National Heavy and Super Heavy classes. The super heavy class is unique to the Combined District Kart Club and is a feature of racing at the Lithgow circuit it has been growing in numbers every year for quite a while and now ranks as one of the major classes at every Lithgow meeting, at this meeting Both Heavy and Super heavy classes were well supported by a lot of members from the Orange Kart club who enjoyed the CDKC Hospitality. CDKC Vice President Tom HEARN took the win on this occasion and has led the way in the Super division for quite a while now, however Maurice PIPER who has followed Tom home all last year is intent of getting the better of the big fella before the Coffs Harbour meeting, and Graeme ABBOTT who will be at Coffs for his first time this year is right in there following them both home into 3rd. The Heavy division seen Rick SELWOOD and apart from a DNF in the second heat, score an almost perfect score to get the win from Jeremy ATKINS and Kyle BUSH once again Orange Kart Club members were prominent.

And that was the racing, but the Combined District Kart Club, provides a lot more than heaps of laps and great racing with Big Fields. There are many other reasons for a great week-end,  On track camping is growing into a great atmosphere with everything from 2 man tents, to some very well appointed mobile homes, club facilities with Showers, Club Rooms, and just the absolute best Kitchen around. The Saturday night meal provided for a very small fee is just an absolute must for all who want to enjoy a weekend of great fellowship.

And the next meeting on March 24th (Heavy Day) and March 25th (Light Day) will honour one of the clubs greatest members with the COL’S CASTLE MEETING a memorial meeting for the late Col Becker, for more details go to the CDKC Web site.
