Two of the driving forces behind the Annual All Ladies Race Day, hosted by the Combined Districts Kart Club at Lithgow in New South Wales, were honoured by the Governor General last Friday.

Karting NSW Life Member Russell Grimson and Combined Districts Kart Club’s Tom Hearn were special guests of Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce for morning tea at Kirribilli House.

“It was an absolute honour to be there as a guest of the Governor General, and even more so to be able to have the sport of karting recognised by such high profile people,” said Grimson.

“When we first came up with the concept of the All Ladies Race Day one of the goals was to spread the word about karting to a wider community than just motorsport and this morning tea was certainly an extension of this.

“Tom and I made some great contacts during the day, I think his pink suit may have helped attract some attention, and we also made a lot of the dignitaries aware of what we do as a sport for the community.”

In the six years of the All Ladies Race Day, the event has raised in excess of $100,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Plans are already well underway for the 2013 event and with the Lithgow City Raceway turning 50 years old next year, Grimson is confident of another fantastic event.

“Already we have been receiving interest from all parts of the country for next year’s All Ladies Race Day – including a team of girls from Tasmania who are fundraising to help them get to the event,” said Grimson.

“With the venue turning 50 next year we’re really looking forward to making it a huge event.”
