Stars of Karting Champions On Show At AGP

AKA press release

2011 CIK Stars of Karting Series Champions Jake Spencer, Tyler Greenbury and Pierce Lehane will be on show at the Formula 1 QANTAS Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne next Sunday (March 18).

The trio (right, AF Images pic) will be guests of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) for a breakfast in the morning before joining V8 Supercar drivers and other current CAMS National Champions in a Parade Lap at 11:45am.

“It’s great to have karting recognised alongside other top levels of Australian motorsport once again,” said Australian Karting Association National President and CIK/FIA Commission Member Craig Denton.

“Not since the late 90s have we had our sport held in as high regard by other forms of motorsport as what we do today. During that era it was drivers such as Jamie Whincup, Mark Winterbottom and Michael Caruso who were crowned the Australian CIK Champions.

“Since the CIK Stars of Karting Series was rejuvenated at the start of 2010 it has certainly made people sit up and take notice of Australian karting once again and gaining the recognition for our series champions is proof of this.

“I’m sure all three drivers will thoroughly enjoy the experience and it is something that can be enjoyed by our champions of 2012 next year.”

For Spencer, who has grown up with aspirations of one day racing at his home Grand Prix, he is extremely excited about being a part of the Champions Parade on Race Day next weekend.

“It’s a huge honour to be taking part in the Parade alongside some of the biggest names and Champions in Australian motorsport,” said Spencer, who is the defending Pro Light (KF1) Champion and won the opening round of the 2012 series last month.

“To have karting spoken about in the same breath as V8 Supercars and other forms of Australian motorsport is a big thing for everyone in karting, and I’m very much looking forward to next weekend.”

Round Two of the 2012 CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE will be hosted by the Newcastle Kart Club on April 21/22.
