The U18 World Championship Chassis

The CIK-FIA has published the homologation papers for all the chassis that can be used in the 2012 U18 World Championship series. These include kart specs and photos of the chassis layout.

Chassis evolutions during the series are frozen and the manufacturers listed below must supply a minimum of 20 karts (and parts/accessories/axles etc) with the official markings for the series.

"In order to guarantee as much equity as possible between Drivers, the chassis – which must be bought new for the Championship – are allocated by drawing lots" the governing body states on the foundation's website.

"Each Driver is authorised to use only one per event but the mandatory presence of the suppliers at the meetings is a guarantee that there will be a race-service for the participants, who will even have the possibility, should it be necessary, to replace a chassis badly damaged in practice or during a race if it is accepted by the Officials."

Official marking of components will start in April allowing manufacturers time to test the accessories they will have identified and to select from their range of products the axle, rims and hubs best suited to the LeCont Medium tyres and the characteristics of the tracks that will be visited. The choice of bodywork is left to the entrant, providing it is homologated by the CIK-FIA.

Thirteen makes entered in 2010, fifteen in 2011 and seventeen this year. The links below access PDFs of the technical documents for the 2012 karts:

It is worth noting that the ASNs for Denmark and the Netherlands will be entering a “national team”. The Netherlands will support at least five drivers and Denmark will enter four.

Among the entries already registered are those of the reigning World Champion, Matthew Graham (Zanardi), and of many former Academicians like the Dane Schandorff (Birel), the Finn Moilanen (Haase), the Swiss Amweg (Lotus), the Austro-Rumanian Brunner (Lotus) and Russia’s Gagen (Parolin). The most experienced Competitor in the Championship will be Britain’s Easthope (Sodi), who will have entered every edition since 2010.
