Karting On Show At Sanctuary Cove

The Australian Karting Association joined with Queenslander karter James Macken at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show on the Gold Coast, Queensland across the weekend.

With Macken, a leading contender in the Rotax Pro Tour, being a part of Sanctuary Cove’s Emerging Athlete program, a display stand was negotiated with Event Management for the four-day event.

Given that the Show is a key event on the Asia-Pacific Boat Show calendar and attracts more 40,000 visitors each year, the display was a fantastic opportunity to open the eyes of a new audience to the sport of karting.

Across the four days the stand was manned by the Macken family and Australian Karting Association’s Media & Marketing Manager Lee Hanatschek.

“The information stand was a huge success, possibly the best one that we’ve had as an Association for a number of years,” said Hanatschek.

“One of the big things that came out of the people we spoke to across the four days was how many people have either been involved or know someone who has been involved in karting.  Also, another common theme was the fact that the older people were looking to get their children, or grandchildren, into the sport.

“It was an opportunity to provide people with general information about how to get involved in the sport, many of whom may have an interest but never knew where to head to get started.  Hopefully, this is the trigger for them to get involved.

“With the Show attracting people from all across the country, it wasn’t just the local South East Queensland area that should benefit from the display either.  We had very genuinely interested people all over the place including Mackay, Mt Gambier, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Hervey Bay.”

With one of the Association’s marquee events, the CIK Stars of Karting Series, being held at the nearby Ipswich circuit in three weeks time, there was a lot of interest in people heading to the circuit to check out the action.
