Overseas Shootout Inspires Torey Blanch

New South Wales kart racer Torey Blanch has returned from contesting the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy Shootout in Italy with a renewed inspiration to take the next step in her karting career.
The 15 year-old was one of 11 young female racers selected by the FIA Women in Motor Sport Committee from all over the world to compete in the shootout earlier this month.
During the two-day shootout Blanch competed in a number of physical tests along with some theory sessions before taking to the wheel of a KF-specification Parolin kart.
“Competing in the shootout was an amazing experience, it certainly opened my eyes to a whole new level of karting,” said Blanch.
“To get the opportunity to compete against the girls from all across the world was fantastic and has really inspired me to take the next step and compete in the Pro Junior (KF3) category here in Australia on a regular basis.
“I would like to thank the CIK-FIA and the Women in Motor Sport for the opportunity to go overseas and complete in the shootout. Also a huge thanks to Leanne Tander for all of her support, Caitlin Wood for the advice, everyone at the AKA and CAMS along with my family and the karting community who showed their support.”
At the end of two days of physical tests, interviews with members of the jury (co-chaired by Banu Baseren, Coordinator of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, and Cathy Muller, Member of the Commission and European Karting Champion in 1979) and runs on the Friuli Venezia track, it was Lina Von Schedvin, from Sweden, who took the award of 5,000 euros to participate in the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy.
Blanch returned to Australia last week and she will be competing in the Junior National Challenge this weekend as a part of the CIK Stars of Karting Series at Ipswich this weekend.
