Italy Is Calling for Tyler Greenbury

Toowoomba’s Tyler Greenbury will be having his final hit-out on Australian soil this weekend at the CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE in Ipswich before heading off to Italy.

Greenbury, the reigning National Champion in the Pro Gearbox (KZ2) ranks, will depart for Italy on Monday morning where next weekend he will compete against some of the world’s best drivers in a WSK Euro Series event.
“I’m really excited about the week that lies ahead, but also a little bit nervous at the same time,” said Greenbury.
“To be racing against the likes of Davide Fore, Marco Ardigo and the many of the world’s best drivers is going to be an amazing experience. I’m looking forward to getting over there and learning from what they do over there so I can better myself.
“I think you can become a bit stale racing the same guys all of the time, you never stop learning but it’s more so the rate that you’re learning at. By getting the opportunity to race in Italy, courtesy of the prize money from last year’s championship and the support of CRG Australia, I’m confident that I’ll come back a better driver.”
While he’s already got one eye focused on next weekend’s event Greenbury, who’s currently fourth in the championship standings after two rounds, knows this weekend will also be a hard fought affair.
“As always in this series, it’s going to be a tough weekend here at Ipswich, adding to that I’ve only had a little bit of time in my new CRG kart but during practice I was one of the fastest – so that’s a promising sign,” said Greenbury.
“Hopefully we can finish here on a high and go into next weekend full of confidence.”
Greenbury finished with the fourth fastest at the end of today’s five practice sessions. In his debut aboard a Formula K chassis, Lee Mitchener was the pacesetter.

One of Australia’s representatives in the World Under 18 Championships, Joseph Mawson, was the pacesetter in the Pro Light (KF1) category.
“I didn’t start off the day too well but by the end of the day we had tuned the Top Kart in and had some good speed,” said Mawson.
“I really enjoy racing here at Ipswich and finished second last year in Pro Junior at last year’s round, so hopefully I can go one better this weekend.”
Eighteen of Australia’s top young drivers will line up on the grid in the Pro Junior (KF3) this weekend at Ipswich with local driver Brock Plumb expected to figure prominently across the weekend.

More than 130 drivers from various parts of the country will be competing in this weekend’s event that will feature three elite categories – Pro Light (KF1), Pro Gearbox (KZ2) and Pro Junior (KF3) – along with three Challenge categories.
Qualifying will begin at 9am tomorrow followed by heat races throughout the day. A pair of main events will be contested on Sunday.
The Ipswich Kart Club is located on Champions Way, Willowbank.
Admission is Free for Spectators with catering available. There will also be a jumping castle and face painting for the kids.
