WSK Pole & Podium For Birel

press release

The Birel Motorsport representative achieved pole position and a place on the podium in Race 2  (after failing Race 1 due to a penalty) at the WSK Euro series round 3 at Muro Leccese recently.

Personal arrangements planned long ago kept Paolo De Conto away from WSK Euro Series 3rd appointment; hence Roberto Toninelli sported Birel colours in KZ1 all alone.

And the Birel Motorsport driver reached shifter class top positions straight away, seizing pole position in the first timed practice sessions in front of Kozlinski and Convers.

And the 1st Final was just another confirmation for Birel-BMB potential in shifter classes, with brilliant Toninelli   first on finish line after a long fight against Lammers and Kozlinski. But in post-race stage the Marshalls gave him 10" penalty for leaving the grid too early.

That meant victory was passed on to Kozlinski preceding Pex, with Toninelli (who also ran the fastest lap of the race) relegated back in 7th place.  As regards Race 2, the Birel Motorsport driver focused on victory again, and again raced the fastest lap, but he was then preceded by Jorrit Pex under the chequered flag, with as little as a 253 thousand gap. Yet he classified 2nd, a really important achievement for his team.

Also Karol Basz’s performance in KF2 was significant to Birel team and to BMB mechanics (who brought a great deal of technical innovation on the track): the weekend took off with a good 7th in qualification, the best performance among the several drivers participating with BMB motor and, after gaining 9th place at the end of the leg, in pre-final the Pole closed in 12th. While in the Final, despite set-up was not top-notch, he secured 9th place, finishing a very demanding weekend with a positive score.

A lot of work was carried out motor wise also in KF3, but unfortunately technical trouble in pre-final barred Antonio D'Angelo from qualification. WSK Euro Series will be back for the final event on 5 August in Zuera.
