High speed karting action will return to Warwick’s Sandy Creek Raceway this weekend as the Rotax Pro Tour makes its second appearance in Queensland for 2012.

More than 120 drivers from various parts of the country will make the trek to the Southern Downs region to compete in the final Pro Tour event ahead of the prestigious Rotax Nationals to be held in Dubbo on the first weekend in September.

After winning his maiden Pro Tour event at the corresponding event last year, Gold Coaster James Macken has been a strong contender in the Rotax Light division, however, he will face tough opposition in the battle for the victory this weekend. Macken will be joined in the 29-kart field by Pierce Lehane, who will be making his debut for the Exprit team, along with Joseph Mawson, who recently returned from competing in Portugal. Lehane and Mawson currently sit one-two in the rankings.

Entering this weekend’s event Victorian Daniel Rochford sits third in the standings as he looks to secure a spot on the grid for the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final to be held in Portugal later this year.

Victorian Troy Woolston has been unstoppable in the Rotax Heavy ranks throughout the 2011/2012 Pro Tour and as a result enters this weekend with a huge lead in the rankings.

Out to halt Woolston’s run, which has seen him win five straight events, is multiple-time Australian Champion William Yarwood and his Queensland compatriots Lane Moore and Brendan Nelson.

In the Junior ranks, recently crowned Australian Junior Clubman Champion Thomas Randle will be looking to continue his good run of late while Gold Coaster Jaxon Evans will be one to watch. The RK Karts Australia driver almost broke through for victory at previous event in Griffth and should again figure prominently this weekend.

Also in action will be competitors in the DD2, DD2 Masters and Rotax Over 40s categories.

Practice will be held on Friday ahead of qualifying and the heat races on Saturday followed by the pre-finals and finals on Sunday.

The Sandy Creek Raceway is located on Sandy Creek Road, Allen (11.5km from the centre of Warwick).
