Jarryd Ebzery Ready For Stars of Karting Round 4

press release

For many the term “Karting” conjures up many images, but for a select few it means top speeds of 140 kilometres, international racing and hours spent fine tuning mechanical and driving skills. For Queensland race driver Jarryd Ebzery, 19, it’s this second form of Karting which he is most passionate about.

Having raced independently for almost 10 years, Jarryd (right, AF Images/Budd pic) has recently joined forces with Toowoomba driver Brooke Topp, 18, to compete in the most elite level of Karting, the 2012 Castrol Edge Australian CIK Stars of Karting Series.

The CIK (Commission Internationale de Karting) Series is an internationally recognised Australian five round series held across four states, with drivers using Karts and equipment equivalent to those used in European and World Championships.

Winning a CIK series not only carries a level of prestige, previous winners include V8 Supercar champions Jamie Whincup and Mark Winterbottom, but it also has its financial incentives with a total prize pool totalling $100,000 and a trip to Japan to compete in the All Japan Yamaha SL Final up for grabs.

The series isn’t just about the prize money, with series organisers making a strong effort to ensure the young drivers learn the skills necessary to compete at high level, including media training, being able to liaise with your Race Engineer to relay information about the kart’s performance and meeting commitments expected of you by sponsors.

The young Mackay driver isn’t tackling the series alone however and is supported by a number of local businesses including Sportspower Mackay and Toyworld Airlie Beach.

Additionally, both Jarryd and Brooke are enjoying their first taste of working with a motorsport team with both youngsters flying the flag for Harrington Doyle racing, a Yatala based Kart and Junior Moto team.  Harrington Doyle in conjunction with their major partners Orrcon Steel, INOX Lubricants, X-treme Racing Apparel, Torque Radio and Motul Engine Oils have dubbed 2012 their “development year” and developed they have.

The first three rounds of the CIK series have already been hotly contested, with both teen drivers showing solid improvements.  Finding their feet in the first round at Bolivar, South Australia, both drivers had top ten finishes, a trend they continued in the second round at Newcastle, NSW.  More recently, both drivers had the home track advantage, competing in round three at Ipswich Kart Club producing their best finishes to date, with Jarryd placing a credible seventh and Brooke fifth, now placing them 9th  and 6th respectively in the series overall.  With both drivers looking to continue their upward projections for round four in Sydney and five in Melbourne, the final leg of the CIK series will be something to watch.
