Karting News Briefs

News from the karting world:

  • Fancy having a drive in the Red Bull F1 simulator? That's one of the key prizes on offer in the second running of the Henry Surtees Challenge all-stars kart showdown. Entry is limited to just 50 competitors from the worlds of karting, open wheelers, touring cars etc. Tests in various real race cars are just some of the other prizes. The event takes place at Buckmore Park (UK) on October 24. More info on Kartlink HERE.

  • The Broken Hill kart track has been resurfaced. Apart from a touch up 10 years ago, the original surface that was laid down in 1967 has been in use. “Now it’s nice and smooth, all the bumps have been taken out" said club President, Andrew Martin. More info and photos on the AKA site HERE.

  • KRN has published the broadcast schedule for their live video coverage of the US Rotax Grand Nationals this weekend. Times shown are US Eastern (GMT -4), so dont forget to convert to whatever your local time is. A full class-by-class preview of the event is on eKartingnews HERE.
    • Thursday, 9 August: 10.00 – 16.00 (Timed Qualifying / Qualifying Heat 1)
    • Friday, 10 August: 9.30 – 16.30 (Qualifying Heats 2 & 3 / Second Chance)
    • Saturday, 11 August 10.00 – 17.00 (Pre-Finals / Finals)

  • In order to keep the annual event alive, Sydney Kart Racing Club will be hosting the City of Sydney Titles at Lithgow on August 25 and 26.  This is the same weekend as the Karting Showdown at Eastern Creek. "We would like to advise, so that any Junior National driver who wishes to participate in the Eastern Creek event, but would still like to race in the City of Sydney, that we will be running the two Junior National classes at the beginning to ensure that you are back in time for the event at Eastern Creek" CDKC's Diane Kermond informed KartSportNews. Supp Regs are on the Race Calendar page HERE.

  • Canberra Kart Racing Club advise their Fairbairn Park circuit will be unavailable to members from August 10 to 13 as it's been hired out to Prokart for the weekend. For further info, call either Bruce Otter (0439 881 152) or Tony Prendergast (0412 500 621).

  • It would seem Jordon Lennox-Lamb has some explaining to do after assaulting another competitor at round 4 of the WSK Euro Series. The CRG driver ran into the back of another kart (which had just passed him) in the second KZ2 Final, eliminating them both from the race. Lennox-Lamb then 'lost it'... The incident starts about 2:35 into the YouTube clip below, which was posted by tKart. Lennox-Lamb was excluded from the event.

“I want to apologise because I overreacted after my accident with Johansson" he has since said. "I was furious for my rivals' strategy. Now I just want to focus on my next appointments: I will run in the KZ2 World Cup in Sarno and also in the KF2 World Cup here in Zuera. Then I'll close with the KF1 World Championship in Macao. I just want to leave this episode behind."
