Next Saturday’s (August 25) Yamaha Karting Showdown at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway is shaping up to be a battle of the best kart racers from various parts of the country.

The Yamaha Karting Showdown, to be contested following the day’s V8 Supercar action at the adjacent Sydney Motorsport Park, will see a grid of 40 drivers in each of the Junior National and Senior Clubman categories under lights.

With the likes of three-time National Champions Cian Fothergill, Jason Hryniuk, Matthew Waters and Tyler Greenbury set to join local stars Bryce Davidson, Aaron Borg, Nathan Tigani, Gordon Wilson, Jordan Zammit and karting veteran Nick Agland on the grid in the Clubman category, the racing will be of the highest quality.

Also entered for the event is 11-time Australian Champion Matthew Wall and one of Australia’s top teenage drivers Pierce Lehane, who won back to back CIK Stars of Karting Series crowns in 2010 and 2011.

The junior category will also be fluttered with the likes of CIK Stars of Karting Series regulars Jayden Ojeda, Thomas Chitty and Dimitri Agathos being joined by Stephanie Stones, Torey Blanch and James Duckworth among the entries.

“To see such high quality drivers entered for the event is very pleasing and it should make for some fantastic racing on the Saturday night to highlight the future stars of Australian motorsport,” said Eastern Creek Karts’ Garry Holt.

“We’re expecting both the Junior National and Clubman fields will be filled to the capacity of 40 drivers as they come together in the condensed format to battle for some great prizemoney under lights.”

In addition to the regular racing, there will also be a Challenge between the Motorsport Media and V8 Supercar Team Personnel.

Representatives have been confirmed from Team Vodafone, Brad Jones Racing, Ford Performance Racing, Kelly Racing, Tony D’Alberto Racing, Dick Johnson Racing, Auto Action, News Limited, the AGE, Sydney Morning Herald, SPEED TV, Motorsport News and Speedcafe.com.

The racing will begin at 6:30pm.

The Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway is located at 50 Peter Brock Drive, Eastern Creek. Admission to the event for spectators is free.
