Canberra Gets Grant For Facility Upgrades

The Canberra Kart Racing Club has received a grant from the ACT Government in the second round of funding for Community Motor Sport. The club advised KartSportNews their application for $143,000 was fully successful.

The grant money can only be spent on activities outlined in their application. As work is completed, the Government pays the fee, up to the maximum applied in the application.

The club applied for monies to:

  • engage a firm of architects (AGM) to gain approval to finish earthworks necessary to profile the site (including an Environmental Impacted Statement)
  • approval to fence the site, which required a survey of the site
  • approval to install the new electronic front gate and the design and location of the new Club House and necessary building approvals
  • install the gate and fence once the approvals are achieved

Site inspections have already taken place. The club must now decide on the location and design of the new club house.

At this stage, however, there is no money to actually build the new club house, relocate services or lay a new track.

"Hopefully, we will be able to get further grants for those purposes in the next rounds of funding. Now that the grant process has started, we are hopeful that this won’t take too long."
