Second-generation racer Thomas Randle was impressive during his debut in the English Super One Series at the Three Sisters circuit near Lancashire on the weekend.

The Victorian teenager teamed with Dan Holland Racing to compete in the Junior Rotax category.

“Joining with the Dan Holland Team was definitely different to what we have in Australia, it was great to race with a very professional team and being able to line up against fellow competitors who had won Euro Max and Super One rounds was an amazing experience,” said Randle.

After topping the timesheets for his group in qualifying, Randle was fourth overall in the qualifying standings.  He then finished fourth and third in his two heat races before crossing the line fifth in the opening final.

Confident of being able to mix it near the front of the field in the main event Randle slotted himself into second place on the opening lap of the second final.  Unfortunately, he was spun on lap two which dropped him to 26th and he recovered to cross the line in 17th position.

“It was a great opportunity for me to be able race in England, as I have never raced in Europe before. The competition was very tough, every lap they would defend down the main straight and try to move you out of the way, and everyone was doing very similar lap times,” said Randle.

“Learning the circuit was definitely a challenge, as the first session that I hit the track was wet and then the next one was dry, so I needed to make every lap count during the races because I was continually learning over the weekend.
“It was a track where I think if you made one mistake that it would cost you a lot.”

The event was won by Welsh karting champion Ben Hingeley.
