Karting Continues to Grow In EmeraldTweetfrom Brett Aird Multiple time National and State title holder Kel Treseder travelled from Bundaberg to race on Sunday at the recently opened Emerald Motorsports Complex. This was the third meeting held by the Emerald Karting Club and to the delight of the club members, Kel was very impressed and said “this is the best laid out track in Australia”.
Kel also commented on how fast the track is. "At the moment the track is still green, however after a few months of use we will see the grip increase and the track become even faster” he said. Treseder broke the lap record, clocking 40.011 seconds in the Open Performance category. Sergeant Brad Weeks, Officer in charge of the Emerald Traffic branch, took the time to make it trackside and was happy to satisfy crowd curiosity by measuring speeds down the straight with a speed camera. The fastest was the Open Performance Shifter Karts with a jaw dropping 139kph. Most other categories travelled at top speeds of 90 to 110kph. Local Open Performance driver Ben Finch was recorded traveling from a standing start to 104kph in 150 meters. Sunday’s meet attracted 56 entries with families travelling from Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Springsure and Moranbah. The youngest of the field were 3 local boys, Bradley Sonter, Jackson Aird and Harry Armstrong, all having recently turned 7 and trying their hand in the Cadet category. All classes attracted good numbers and with the combination of Queensland Sportsman Light and Heavy, saw a field of 28 karts take to the track for some close competitive racing. Due to the track width there where very few incidents. With increasing nominations for all classes, the racing at Emerald will only continue to go from strength to strength which will offer another friendly, competitive venue for karters in central Queensland.
