Ipswich Karting Enduro For A Good Cause

The South East Queensland karting community will go racing later this month for the 2012 Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Enduro to be hosted by the Ipswich Kart Club.

Up to 44 teams of two drivers will take to the circuit in a 125cc TaG karts in a three-hour senior endurance race under lights (race start 5:30pm), while the junior drivers will take part in a two-hour race during the afternoon (race start 1pm).

The senior endurance race will be split into two categories with up to 22 teams in the Unrestricted 125cc karts, while 22 teams of relative newcomers can line up in the grid in the TaG Restricted category.

The September 29 event follows on from a successful event held last July where the karting community joined forces to raise funds for V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards, who was battling cancer at the time. Unfortunately, he lost his battle last December.

After raising more than $6,500 during last year's Charity Enduro, Ipswich Kart Club President Ashley Waardenberg is hopeful of replicating this feat for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia in 2013.

“Even before the chequered flag had flown on last year’s race, everyone in the pit area was already speaking about wanting to do a similar event in the future. It’s great that we’ve been able to join with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia for this year’s event,” said Waardenberg.

“The concept of having the TaG Open and TaG Restricted categories as a part of the event along with the Junior race has opened up the opportunity for more members of the karting community to be involved.

“We’ve already gained some great support from organisations such as the Paramedic Services QLD, QLD Trophy Distributors, Sam Houston Drafting & Mechanical Services, Australian Karting Association and Queensland Raceways. We look forward to gaining further support as the event draws closer.”

In addition to the pair of endurance races, there will also be a number of demonstrations by the Queensland Vintage and Historic Karting Association throughout the event.

The Supplementary Regulations for the special event will be available shortly. Competitors looking to register their interest should email the Ipswich Kart Club on secretary@ipswichkartclub.com.au

The Ipswich Kart Club is located on Champions Way, Willowbank.
