Karting News Briefs

Briefs from around the traps:

  • Kartlink.com says that from January 2013, the MSA (the UK version of CAMS) will no longer grant waivers to allow 15 year old drivers in any single-seater championship. "In line with FIA regulations, no driver under the age of 16 will be permitted to compete in single-seater racing."

  • Registrations for the 2012 VKA Junior Development Camp being held at the Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club on the 24th and 25th of September close TODAY (Monday 17th). Anyone who wants to attend the camp but is yet to register, submit your registration to the VKA office ASAP. Info HERE.

  • "In the past few years, it has all been about the top level and the foundations have been completely forgotten" and "We need to move towards simpler and less expensive equipment... ...Electric starters, clutches, embedded electronics... they cause a series of problems: excessive weight, high costs, additional failures, controls so complex that they cannot be used outside major competitions". Those quotes are just part of an interview with CIK-FIA Vice President Kees Van De Grint on kartcom - click HERE to have a read.

  • There is a last chance opportunity to clock race and practice miles on the Kartodromo International Algarve (the track for the 2012 Rotax World Final) before the "practice ban" prohibits it for qualified drivers. Entry for the MOJO Cup closes on September 28, or when the 34-kart field fills.

  • There are less than two weeks to get your teams together to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia via the senior and junior endurance races at Ipswich on 29 September:
    • Each year 3,300 men die from Prostate cancer in Australia.
    • Approx 20,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
    • Prostate cancer is equally as big a killer of men as breast cancer is of women.
    • While prostate cancer is most common in men over the age of 50, younger men with a history of prostate cancer in their family are at greater risk.
    • Prostate cancer can be cured if detected and treated while still confined to the prostate gland.
