Top Drivers Predict 4-Way Battle This Weekend

press release

Top New Zealand karter Daniel Bray is predicting a four and possibly even five-way battle for KZ2 class honours at the final round of the 2012 Mi Sedaap instant noodles Pro Kart series at KartSport Rotorua's Amoore Rd Raceway this weekend.

Defending title-holder Ryan Grant heads the points standings but there has been little in it between he and Bray all season while at the penultimate round at Auckland a month ago Bray's teammate Matthew Hamilton was the overall winner after early pace-setter Grant was side-lined by mechanical problems.

Bray raised eyebrows around the world when he qualified fourth and won heat races at the recent World Cup meeting for KZ2 in Italy but as he expects no favours on his return to the highly-rated Mi Sedaap series this weekend.

"Because I missed the Auckland round the title fight is going to be between Ryan and Matthew, then there's Richard Moore in third (in the points) and myself and Graeme Smyth who aren't in contention for the overall title but will be in terms of pace. It's going to make it interesting, that's for sure."

In the other classes on the Mi Sedaap series roster the points situation is a little more clear-cut.

In the KF3 junior support class - which sees four new drivers making their debut this weekend ahead of a full season next year - Palmerton North driver Josh Drysdale has a 13-point lead over Hawke's Bay driver Mitchell Turner with the title Drysdale's to win.

And in the KZ2 Masters class defending title holder Tom Curran has an 11-point lead over Aucklander Mark Lane with series organiser Steve Brown third a further seven points back.

There will action on track at Rotorua both days with qualifying and the first of the heats on Saturday and the remainder of the heats then Pre-Finals and Finals on Sunday.
