Practice Report From CIK Todd RdTweetfrom karting.net.au If the lap times during today’s practice sessions are anything to go by, the action at this weekend’s ‘Final Showdown’ of the CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE is going to be a scintillating affair. With all three Championships in the Pro categories still up for grabs during this weekend’s final round in Port Melbourne, today provided a clear indication of a tight battle across the board.
Local driver Jason Pringle set the pace in the Pro Gearbox (KZ2) category aboard his CRG kart. The Essendon driver headed a CRG trifecta at the top of the timesheets with new recruit Matthew Wall and reigning Champion Tyler Greenbury setting the second and third fastest times. Championship leader Kyle Ensbey and second placed Chris Hays rounded out the top five. A light shower prior to the final Pro Light (KF1) practice session masked the outright speed of a number of competitors who had planned to do a ‘qualifying’ run during the session. Former Champion Cian Fothergill finished with the fastest time of the day, narrowly ahead of his Kosmic Racing Australia team-mate Matthew Waters. Championship leader Adam Hughes shadowed his main rival Daniel Rochford throughout the day while posting times inside the top five for the majority of the day.
The final practice session of the day proved to be the fastest of the day with championship leader Cameron Hill posting the fastest time. CRG driver Jake Coleman was second quickest ahead of last round winner Thomas Randle.
