Going Pink For A PurposeTweetpress release The Tasmanian karting community has turned pink to support a group of young Tasmanian girls who have found each other through racing go karts. They call themselves "Tassies Fastest Ladies". The group of girls, who are aged between 10 and 21, have joined to raise money to attend a prestigious annual event held in Lithgow, NSW, every January. This event is the only one of its kind throughout Australia. The race meeting is a women’s-only event which is a memorial for a young female go karter who was tragically killed in a race accident. It is also a major fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and throughout the years has raised over $100,000 for the organisation. 2013 will be the first time any Tasmanian has ever attended this event and all the girls are excited to not only make their mark on the racing circuit, but also donate as much money as possible to this wonderful cause.
For the past 8 months, the group has been out and about raising money and awareness and so far the young girls have raised over $6,500 with many more fundraising events to take place until the girls leave in January. The girls have certainly been turning heads and have even been rubbing shoulders with some of the greats in Australian motorsport such as Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup, who have kindly donated some signed memorabilia to be auctioned off at the girls’ upcoming trivia and auction night at the Perth community centre on the 6th of October, as well as many other prizes and items donated by generous Tasmanian businesses.
The girls have also found that it has been a fantastic opportunity to bond together and have been blown away by the high level of support shown towards their cause. The girls are still seeking donations and would like to extend their greatest appreciation for all that have supported them so far.
