Lots of Laps At Lithgow Races

from CDKC

COMBINED DISTRICTS KART CLUB, LITHGOW CITY RACEWAY
RACE MEETING 22ND / 23RD SEPTEMBER 2012

“HOW MUCH BETTER CAN IT GET?”

After a lot of experienced tuning, and with a determination to provide karters with quality racing over as many laps as possible the Combined Districts Kart Club, at its race meeting on the week-end of 22/23 Sept, provided no less than 4 heats, a pre final and a final on the Saturday; and with some really big fields, backed it up with the usual 3 heats, pre-final and final on the Sunday, and still had karters on their way home before 4.00 pm.

It is planned that this event named “THE LITHGOW 300” will become an annual event providing, together with a suitable trophy, prize money of $300.00 for each class, split at $150 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third. Every event was hotly contested and fully sponsored, which is an indication of the support that this club has throughout its membership.

A total of 143 karters provided a total of 13 classes, in which a number of 20 or better fields faced the starter and provided some very determined, quality racing on both days. The weather provided us with just absolutely beautiful sunny days, and with many of the entrants off to the State Titles I am sure the hit out has been good for them all.

On the Saturday the ever growing Lithgow Cadets, sponsored by WISKICH Pty Ltd, saw no less than 21 eager beavers out there ready to do battle.  Kasey SZYMKOW, showed them the way around the track to record his very first ever  win in a final from Zachary HEARD and Thomas SARGENT made the trip from Grenfell to turn in his usual polished performance to fill the third spot.

WISKICH Pty Ltd also sponsored the Rookies where Zac RADDATZ showed that he must be a hot tip for the State Titles as he led home another large field of enthusiastic Rookies with Ziggy Vaccarella and Tyler Everingham filling the minor placings; however I am sure both those guys will be keen to reverse the result in Coffs Harbour.

AUTOMOTIVE COLOUR AND EQUIPMENT put the money up for the Clubman Light guys to have a crack at and all the guys really showed their appreciation by providing some of the best and closest racing we have seen for quite some time. Ian BEERAZ was hard pressed by all the starters all day but managed to keep them at bay in the final where he led home Joshua SEIFFERT and Michael RILEY. Joshua has been a very real improved contender in most of his recent starts and must be a real hope for a state title.

The Senior National Light field sponsored by D’TANGLZ HAIR DESIGN was a bit low in numbers, but not in ability and a spirited days racing saw Brayden PRITCHARD continue his winning ways to lead home Lachlan JONES and our very proficient lady combatant Alexandra LAWRENCE who just gives nothing away to any of the guys.

Strong club members, the COLOMBRITA FAMILY sponsored the Junior National Light class in which another State Title prospect Glen ORMEROD worked hard all day to keep Nathan ROURKE and Anthony COLOMBRITA in the minor spots.

Full sponsorship was provided by both STONES KARTSPORT and GILLESPIES CRANES for both the SPORTSMAN LIGHT AND HEAVY Classes, but with only one entrant arriving it was decided to not run the classes, which is a real shame as the circuit is a very technical, testing one that always provides ample opportunity, and the effort that the club provides must surley be attractive? I know that the committee is looking for some guidance from these guys who run these classes as to what is needed for us to see them in bigger numbers, let’s hear from you guys?

As the Sportsman Classes ended up not running, the sponsorship that Stones Kartsport and Gillespies Cranes put forward was used to provide two sets of tyres (one set each day) to be given away to one of the entrants via a draw of the hat.

Saturday concluded with the normal “Joycee” Bar-B-Q dinner which is always available for those who wish to stay and talk the serious (Really??) talk and join in the fellowship that this club provides.

Sunday saw another glorious day dawn, and the smell of the traditional Lithgow Breakfast Bar-B-Q wafting through the pits in the brisk Lithgow morning air was enough to get everybody excited in anticipation of another glorious days racing.

The EGAN FAMILY sponsored the Senior National Over 40’s class which had another big field.  Brian SCIBERRAS has lost none of his ability to keep some very real hot shots behind him all day, for he went on to win every heat except one , the pre final and the final and managed to put Peter PONTELLO and Glen EGAN into the minors, with some other very strong contenders like Anthony BORG and John HORSBURGH.  Even further back, it was great to see club President Paul GIUNTINI have a crack at them but the pace was a little hot for him to handle, he certainly tried hard.

Then the BIG GUYS!! The Senior National SUPER Heavies, sponsored by CTH ELECTRICAL and with a large strong contingent down from the Orange Club the usually strong local field was severely challenged. Tom HEARN is really hard to beat on any track, but on his home track of Lithgow it will take a huge effort to unseat him.  Having said that Kurtis and Brent DICKSON, brothers from Orange kept Tom very busy all day long and finished in the minor placings. Young Keegan BRAIN is one to watch for in the future, his effort on the day had the leaders very worried.

A good number of TAG guys, in both divisions just love the place and with the light division sponsored by the EVALOCK Organisation they turned out in force to do battle for the dollars on offer.  Michael SIEDERS kept Daniel LEARSON and Rodney GOODMAN into the minor placings. While the TAG Heavy guys worked hard for the sponsorship provided by SYDNEY RECYCLING.   Simon KENDRICK was never any further back than 2nd place to finally win the event from Derek LANE and Stuart ROBERTSON.

The CASTLE HILL ELECTRICAL WHOLESALE sponsored the Senior National Heavy.  With a decent field, Jeremy ATKINS, spent all day trying to find some pace, and a DNF in the second heat made things look a little dim for him, however he managed to get it all together for the final and scored the win from Jessica SCHWARZ, and David DUNBAR.

What an aptly named sponsor for the Clubman Over 40’s class!! THE TOUCH-UP GUYS     .....    Not that these guys get too serious!! ................ who am I kidding????     Michael O’BRIEN had to work his butt off the keep Phillip DAY and Michael MICALLEF behind him and into the minor placings; a really great days racing to watch as none of the guys were ever really going to give in.

And the Clubman Heavy guys, sponsored by SOUTH WINDSOR BUTCHERY were no different with Michael HAZELTON forgoing his twin engine beast for a run in this division, and Justin McCARTHY and Richard DROOGER who filled the minors were at him all day long, not to mention Ben PIPER, Ryan PORTELLI and some others who kept everybody extremely honest all day long.

And finally the Junior National Heavies, sponsored by JOSEPH HAYEK; an extremely big field went to the starter, with many having the tussle of the state titles next week firmly in their mind.  For that reason alone it was great to see CDKC Members hard at it. Scotty HARRIS got home in the final from the hard charging Jeffrey RAHALEY and Nicholas BECKER.  All of these guys will be representing our club in Coffs Harbour next week and we really do wish them all the best.

On that note we should extend a really big “GO GET EM GUYS” to all our members that will travel to the State Titles next week-end.

Coffs Harbour is the home of the Over 40’s and so it is well known to most of the Combined members who, as a club, have been very strong supporters of that event for many years. There is no doubt that the track will be, as it always is, in pristine condition and some very close and exciting racing will be the order of the week-end.  We wish all our competing members the very best.

And the Next Event, “THE LITHGOW ANNUAL CLYDE MARSHALL MEMORIAL“, a 2 day event to be held on the 27th and 28th of October 2012. Further details will be on the CDKC web site, and Pre Entries will be available and compulsory for some classes.  So get on the site at www.cdkc.com.au and be sure to get your entry in early.

On the Saturday Night of the above event, as well as the usual great “Joycee Bar-B-Q” (available to all for a small fee) our now well known annual “TRIVIA NIGHT” and “AUCTION” will be held in the clubhouse which just adds to the fun and excitement of a great weekend.

This club is determined to have everybody go home satisfied with the racing it provides and having enjoyed a fabulous day with well fed like minded friendly people, come and see for yourself, make the 27th and 28th OCTOBER a LITHGOW WEEK-END.
