Six Australian drivers from various parts of the country will kickstart a flurry of young Australian drivers competing at overseas karting events over the coming months.

The first wave of drivers - Melbourne’s Travis Millar (Bayswater, Vic) and Jack Bell (Glen Waverley, Vic), Sydneysiders Andrew Kahl (Carlingford, NSW), Cody Gillis (Brownsville, NSW) and Christopher Sandrone (Cobbitty, NSW) along with Western Australia’s Kurt Kostecki (Henley Brook, WA) - will depart this week to contest the RoK Cup International Final at the Lonato circuit in Italy on October 10-13.

Each year the 1009-metre circuit hosts many international competitions, such as the Winter Cup and in the past seasons, it hosted a lot of editions of the European Championship and the World Championship, that always draw the lovers of this sport from all over the world.

Having been a front-runner in the junior ranks during 2012, 14 year-old Kahl is excited about making his international debut next weekend.

“It will be a very interesting experience with all of the international drivers, it will also be a whole new ball game in terms of not only the competition but also the RoK engine and the tyres we will be using over there,” said Kahl.

Gillis echoed Kahl’s thoughts about the upcoming event that will see all competitors use identical equipment.

“I’m very excited as it’s the first time that I’ve raced overseas.  I don’t know anything about the competition so I’m just going over there and do the best that I can,” said Gillis.

“A big thanks to Tony Kart Australia, Karting World and Tom Williamson for all of their help and support to make this opportunity happen.”

Practice for the event begins on Wednesday October 10 ahead of qualifying on Thursday October 11.  The qualifying heats will be contested on Friday October 12 ahead of the pre-finals and finals on Saturday October 13.
