September Races At Emerald

from Brett Aird

The Emerald Kart Club held their September meet on Sunday the 30th in trying conditions with many of the drivers having their first experience on a wet track. Entries where down from previous meets, however with the school holidays, a long weekend and the weather, organisers where happy with 39 entries.

The option was given to use wet tyres with the track being declared wet by officials, however in a great show of sportsman ship, the few with wet tyres chose not to run on wets and passed on advice to the inexperienced drivers on wet set up which ensured everyone had the ability to be compeditive.

For the first round of heats, water spray and air box covers where the norm along with the inevitable spins and slides that go along with adrenaline and a wet track. It was left to the Cadets to show the way with some impressive driving in the extremely wet conditions with the drivers showing kart and accelerator control way beyond their experience.

The senior classes continued relatively incident free and by the end of the first round the track was showing a distinct dry line. After the first round excitement, the rest of the meet flowed quite well with the track drying considerably by the second round of heats.

Congratulations to all drivers who competed, it was good to see people willing to have a go in the wet.
