Vic Superkarts Final Round for 2012

  13 November 2012

press release

The final round of the 2012 Victorian Superkart Club series was held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit under almost perfect conditions on the weekend. Several drivers opted for rides in other karts either to help shake down some bugs or just get out there for some fun.

In the 3 point motors 250 Internationals class the big bangers were there in force. Brendan Luneman stepped up from the Nationals to test drive his new twin but had a few ignition issues that stopped him from getting out for race one. Matt Bass was sorting out some engine gremlins before destroying an engine in race two but made repairs for the final and showed some good pace. Daniel Potter had a big moment braking into MG when a rear wheel decided to take the shorter way home to the paddock leaving Daniel parked in the grass.

In the 250 Nationals it was all Scott Appledore and Darren James with Jason Akermanis having a day he’d rather forget. In the Barry Plant 125 Gearbox class it was a mixture of GP engines and the stock Hondas that ended up chasing Garry Haywood most of the day.

In the Hold-on-for-life non-gearbox Lights (Rotax) it was Russ Occhipinti all the way with no one even challenging over all four races, with Michael Utting and Bart Humphries fighting for the minor placings.

In the Oz Design Nunawading non gearbox Heavies (Rotax) the racing was close up front and you could throw a blanket over the first five in most races. In the end Alan Dodge from NSW was too consistent for the local boys and took home a well deserved win.

This was also the final for our Junior Championship and after four rounds it was determination and persistence that paid off for Tim Clarke. Final results for the Championship being:

Tim Clarke 1st, Conor Nicholson 2nd, James Allen 3rd, Dylan Howell 4th and Jamie Macdonald 5th.

Conor will return for next years Junior Championship and will be joined by Tyler Williams who’s grandfather and father have a Superkart pedigree.

If you drive a J-Max and would like to be part of the Championship next year visit the Victorian Superkart Club website, www.superkartsvictoria.com for more information.
